  • New Loyola School of Nursing Mosaic

Back in 1966, Chicago's Loyola University opened a new building, at the north campus. It featured a very handsome, very mid century mosaic, by Melville Philip Steinfels. In 2010, the school decided to demolish the building, ... but save the mosaic.

A new Loyola School of Nursing was going up at the school's medical
    campus in Maywood Illinois,

I was commissioned to design 3 mosaics to work with the 1966 mosaic.
It was a wonderful project. I thought what will work, ... be bold, simple, and and fit with the complex education narrative theme, of the original mosaic.

I designed 2 large heads, 8 ft by 8 ft, with rainbow mosaic edges, and a long quote. The quote is from "The Corporal Works of Mercy". The quote is the full 45 ft length of the full mosaic.

The saved older work and the completed new work, are housed in the new study center at the brand new nursing school.
